Renewables developer rPlus Energies on Tuesday said it has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 400 MW of solar plus 200 MW of storage with US electricity provider PacifiCorp, part of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A).
The contract is for rPlus’ Green River Energy Centre in Emery County, Utah, which is the largest planned solar facility with integrated battery storage in the state. The project was awarded in a competitive process after taking part in PacifiCorp's 2020 all-source request for proposals.
Sundt Construction will be in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction for the solar and storage complex, which is expected to bring a roughly USD-750-million (EUR 761m) investment to Utah's economy. The project is expected to start construction in early 2023.
In Utah, rPlus Energies has also developed the 80-MW Graphite Solar project, which was switched on in July, and the 200-MW Appaloosa Solar 1 project, which went into construction earlier this year. Both schemes have PPAs with PacifiCorp under a tariff of its business unit Rocky Mountain Powe, which enables large customers to buy renewable energy generated on their behalf.
With the newly announced PPA, rPlus Energies, a subsidiary of The Gardner Group, now has over 1.2 GW of contracted renewable generation capacity.
