China’s Risen Energy Co Ltd (SHE:300118) said today it has commenced construction work on the 121-MW Yarranlea solar farm project in Queensland, Australia.
Risen Energy will build, own and operate the facility to the southwest of Toowoomba. Both Toowoomba and Darling Downs will benefit from the 264 GWh of electricity that are estimated to be produced at the site annually.
The solar power plant is expected to be completed by the end of March 2019, at the earliest.
The project has obtained regulatory approval for the development of integrated energy storage and, according to Risen Energy Australia project development and investment director John Zhong, the firm has set up specific zones for energy storage onsite.
"In addition to Queensland, we are targeting other states across Australia, most notably Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. To facilitate development of the project, we have assigned experienced experts to analyse our ongoing projects, while preparing for development of additional power stations that we will own and operate ourselves,” Zhong stated. He added that the company intends to expand further in Australia over the next five years, targeting 1 GW.
