Sep 15, 2011 - Colombian sugar producer Riopaila Castilla (CLB:RIOPAILIND) wants to expand a recently approved ethanol project to 400,000 litres (105,700 gallons) a day.
The initial project, with a production capacity of 300,000 litres of ethanol a day, was approved by Riopaila's board of directors last month. The expanded project will require larger investments, which need to be approved by the shareholders, Riopaila said in a note to local securities market authorities yesterday. Therefore, it called a shareholders meeting for September 23, 2011.
The ethanol plant will be built in the company's Riopaila refinery in the western department of Valle del Cauca. The estimated investment was not announced.
