(SeeNews) – Aug 20, 2014 – Brazil’s northeastern Rio Grande do Norte state is expected to exceed 2 GW of installed wind power capacity at the end of October 2014, Brazilian energy think-tank Cerne said Tuesday.
The commissioning of 30 power stations, envisaged for the end of October, will boost the installed capacity of the region by 816.7 MW. More precisely, the state's wind capacity will reach a total 2,060.097 MW by that time. Brazilian energy regulator Aneel has authourised the grid connection of the said wind farms to the Joao Camara III substation.
At present Rio Grande do Norte has 45 wind parks with a combined capacity of 1,223.597 MW in commercial operation.
Rio Grande do Norte, surpassed 1 GW of wind in May 2014. The second Brazilian state that has achieved 1 GW of installed wind power capacity was Ceara, nearly a month later.
