Spanish energy group Repsol SA (BME:REP) today announced plans to develop 1,768 MW of renewable energy projects in Italy, which is one of the focus countries in its international renewables expansion.
The portfolio includes 943 MW of wind and 825 MW of solar projects, with more than 60% of them at an advanced stage of development.
The company, which already has an office in Milan, will soon start construction of its first two photovoltaic arrays in Italy. The projects have a capacity of 11 MW and are located in the southern Italian region of Puglia.
Repsol has amassed the portfolio through the acquisition of several projects combined with the Italian sites of Asterion Energies, which Repsol bought recently, adding a 7,700-MW pipeline.
The Spanish group has a target of 6,000 MW of installed renewables capacity by 2025 and 20,000 MW by 2030. Currently, it has more than 2,000 MW in operation, including 1,600 MW in Spain. It further has operational and development projects in the US and in Chile, through a joint venture with the Ibereolica Renovables Group, as well as 3 MW in operation in Portugal, through its involvement in the WindFloat Atlantic floating wind farm.
