India’s installed renewable energy capacity has reached 38,096.49 MW as at the end of October after the country added 2,311.88 MW in the first seven months of its fiscal year 2015-16, data by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) showed.
Under a national target set by the central government, the South Asian country will aim to complete 4,460 MW by April 31, the end of the fiscal period.
Wind power remained the leader among all green power sources in the country, reaching a cumulative 24,677.72 MW. Since March, India has plugged in 1,234.11 MW of new wind turbines, achieving more than half of the desired 2,400 MW, MNRE calculates.
In terms of solar, the country managed to build 827.22 MW during the period under review, bringing its aggregate capacity to 4,579.24 MW. For fiscal 2015-16, India’s solar target is 1,400 MW in total.
