October 14 (Renewables Now) - Norway’s REC Group said on Friday it has kicked off mass production of its REC Alpha Series 380-Wp heterojunction (HJT) solar panels at an expanded factory in Singapore.

The new panels use 60-cell solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and are suitable for rooftop applications. They have an efficiency of up to 21.7% and are also available in a black version.

The initial REC Alpha Series production volumes are already in use in home solar systems in Italy, the Netherlands, the US, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The Norwegian firm says the panels perform well both in cold and hot climate conditions and are also suitable for more severe weather sites.

REC Group says it has invested some USD 150 million (EUR 136m) in REC Alpha manufacturing capacity. I has added 600 MW of HJT solar cell and module production capacity "in one shot" and now has total of 1.8 GW of solar manufacturing capacity in Singapore, the company said.
