REC Solar nabs government, utility deals for 9-MW of solar power
(ADPnews) - Oct 11, 2010 - US grid-tied solar systems provider REC Solar Inc said on Monday it has secured six federal and two utility deals to build 9.1 MW of solar projects in California, Arizona, Florida and Hawaii.
The projects should be completed by the end of 2011.
Five of the contracts, coming from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), involve the installation of five solar arrays on VA hospitals in Florida, Arizona and California. Under the other federal deal, REC Solar is to construct a ground-mounted solar facility in Los Angeles for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service.
The two utility orders are for the construction of a 1.1-MW ground-mounted array for a municipal utility in Hayward, California and a 1.21-MW system for interconnection to Kauai Island Utility Cooperative grid in Kapaa, Hawaii.
Up to now, REC Solar has bagged government contracts for over 20 MW. Government agencies are currently increasing solar power funding as they are fighting high energy prices from conventional plants and pursuing high power efficiency targets.
