Ram Power connects to Nicaraguan grid 36 MW of geothermal capacity
Dec 22, 2011 - US geothermal energy company Ram Power Corp (TSE:RPG) said today it had connected to the grid 36 MW of geothermal capacity in Nicaragua, representing phase I expansion of the company's San Jacinto-Tizate plant.
The additional capacity, added to the existing 10-MW geothermal plant, is to kick off commercial operation in the near future, the company said. The facility's output will be bought under a long-term power purchase agreement by local units of Spanish utility Gas Natural Fenosa.
Ram Power has planned a second phase of expansion, which is to add another 36 MW to the San Jacinto plant's capacity. Completion is expected in December 2012. Once all expansion activities are completed, the company will decommission the older 10-MW backpressure units, it said in an earlier statement.
