Renewables infrastructure investor Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners today said it has acquired a 350-MW solar-plus-battery storage project in Kent, South East England, for an undisclosed sum.
The project is consented and is set to create the largest single-site solar photovoltaic (PV) complex in the UK. Details bout the vendor were not provided.
Quinbrook intends to commence the construction of the so-called Fortress scheme in the first half of next year. Once up and running, the PV farm is expected to produce enough electricity to cover the consumption of roughly 100,000 local homes. It will be coupled with a battery storage facility, the capacity of which was not specified.
Fortress was cleared by the UK government in May last year and was granted the status of a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP).
With the addition of Fortress, Quinbrook's solar and battery storage portfolio has grown to 2.6 GW, of which 1.6 GW of solar PV and 1 GW of battery storage capacity, located in the US and UK. The company is currently building the 690-MW Gemini solar-plus-storage complex in Nevada, which will feature 380 MW/1,400 MWh of battery storage capacity.
