Qair, Arec JV to build 10-MW green hydrogen plant at French port - report

Hyd'Occ, jointly owned by a unit of French renewable power producer Qair and compatriot Arec Occitanie, plans to build a 10-MW green hydrogen production facility in France’s Aude department, local news provider ToulEco reports.

The new production base will be installed within the Port-la-Nouvelle in southern France and is expected to have an output of 1,500 tonnes per year. Its output will be used for zero-emission mobility purposes in road freight transport, both in France and other European countries, and will be marketed from October 2023.

The French company intends to pour some EUR 25 million (USD 30m) to build the facility, with construction set to begin in the spring of 2022. The electrolysis will use power from the 30-MW Eolmed floating wind park that will go online in southern France by 2023.

According to the report, the investor has a 10-year goal to expand the plant’s capacity so as to produce 6,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually.

Hyd'Occ was set up in the summer of 2020 by Qair’s subsidiary Qair Premier Element, which holds the controlling 65% stake, and Arec.
