Puerto Rico awards contracts for six large-scale PV projects
Jan 23, 2014 - Puerto Rican energy regulator AEE has awarded contracts for the development of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants to six companies.
The companies, namely Horizon, YFN Yabucoa Solar, Oriana, Solaner, Grupotec and Atenas Solar, have renegotiated their power-purchase agreements (PPAs) under the new parameters set by the Puerto Rican government, AEE said in a statement.
The PPAs were modified in order to meet the recently introduced minimum technical requirements (MTRs) obliging renewable energy project developers to install energy storage systems.
Under the requirements, the renewable energy projects will have to install an energy storage system equal to 30% of the contracted capacity of the overall power plant.
The six projects will be part of a 600 MW renewable energy procurement programme, to be launched by the Puerto Rico government later this month.
