PSEG Solar Source said on Thursday it has bought a recently-completed, 10.6-MW direct current (DC) solar photovoltaic (PV) park in Long Island from Solar Liberty Energy Systems Inc.
The company, which is part of US energy group Public Service Enterprise Group (NYSE:PEG), said that this project represents an investment ranging from USD 20 million (EUR 17m) to USD 25 million.
Built in West Babylon by Solar Liberty of New York, the facility uses nearly 35,000 solar panels installed on a fixed tilt racking system. It is expected to start commercial operation in October. The PSEG West Babylon Solar Center has 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA).
"While this is our first project in New York, we are certainly open to exploring additional utility-scale solar opportunities in the Empire State,” said Diana Drysdale, president of PSEG Solar Source.
PSEG Solar Source now has 19 utility-scale solar facilities with a total capacity of 349 MW in operation and three projects totalling 58 MW under construction. These 22 assets are located in 14 different states.
