January 7 (Renewables Now) - PPC Renewables SA, a unit of Greek utility PPC SA (ATH:PPC), is looking to develop at least 300 MW of wind and solar projects in partnership with Masdar Taaleri Generation DOO (MTG).

MTG is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar and Finland's wind and solar developer Taaleri Energia Ltd, created to develop renewable energy projects in Central and Eastern Europe.

The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding for the projects they are looking to develop in Greece last month. This comes in line with Greece's goal to generate over 27% of its power from renewable sources by 2030.

In addition, PPC Renewables has filed applications with the Regulatory Authority for Energy seeking permits for solar power capacity of about 1.5 GW, news portal Energy Press reports. The company is said to be looking to develop solar projects at its depleted lignite fields in the Western Macedonia region in northern Greece, and in Megalopoli, in the Peloponnese. Separately, PPC Renewables is holding talks with Greek and foreign companies to partner on the development of some of its existing projects, according to the same report.
