November 9 (Renewables Now) - Polenergia SA (WSE:PEP) has signed an initial agreement to acquire Polish solar systems developer Edison Energia in order to boost its presence in the country's increasingly decentralising energy sector.

To date, Warsaw-based Edison Energia has installed over 20,000 photovoltaic (PV) arrays for individual and business clients, with a total capacity of 120 MWp. The company, which also provides heat pumps, car chargers and energy storage systems, has about 1,500 employees and contracting partners.

For its part, Polenergia sees the deal as a means to expand into new business segments and broaden its product offering. The Polish energy group last year set the goal of achieving 821 MW of operational capacity by 2024, of which 315 MW to come from onshore wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects.

The transaction requires the approval of Poland's Office of
Competition and Consumer Protection.
