November 25 (Renewables Now) - US-based hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) technology developer Plug Power Inc (NASDAQ:PLUG) has selected the Port of Duisburg in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, as the location of its European headquarters.
As announced by the company in September, it plans to set up a 70,000-square-foot (6,503 sq m) site in NRW to house an innovation centre with engineering labs and technical support, as well as a monitoring, diagnostics and technical support centre. The facility will benefit from an on-site electrolyser for green hydrogen production.
Plug Power has now chosen the Port of Duisburg because it offers direct maritime supply chain connections to Antwerp, Belgium and Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and allows the company to capitalise on the region’s industrial area, including its large concentration of logistics and transport customers, it said.
Moreover, the port city has been elected as one of three hydrogen technology capital cities in Germany. The port itself can accommodate future expansions, according to the announcement.
