Philippines' AboitizPower lays eyes on rooftop solar

Philippine power producer Aboitiz Power Corp (PSE:AP) said on Monday it has established a new firm to set foot into the rooftop solar space.

The newly-created entity is called Aboitiz Power Distributed Energy Inc (APX) and plans to complete a number of key projects in Luzon and Visayas this year. The new business unit will help the group further grow its Cleanergy brand that focuses on renewables, Aboitiz Power explained.

“The positive response from customers affirms our view that distributed energy technology such as rooftop solar complements existing products and services that the AboitizPower group provides,” said Ping Mendoza, general manager for the new company.

The Cleanergy brand currently counts 1,272 MW of net sellable capacity, including AboitizPower’s maiden solar asset -- the San Carlos Sun (Sacasun) plant in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, which has a peak capacity of 59 MW.
