Philippine DoE has no intention to raise solar installation target
(SeeNews) – Dec 6, 2011 – Philippines' Department of Energy (DoE) has vowed that it will not raise the installation target for solar arrays in the country, referring to technical constraints of the national power grid, the Manila Bulletin said today.
The newspaper quoted Philippines' energy secretary Rene D. Almendras, who responded to media questions about the possibility to boost the proposed installations for solar to be backed by feed-in-tariff (FIT) charges. Almendras said that raising the target, which presently stands at 50 MW, would be unwise due to issues related to capacity accommodation.
He also noted the solar power sector was experiencing troubles due to the oversupply of technologies and the possibility that the new technologies would soon improve generation capabilities, thereby making existing technologies outdated.
