(ADPnews) - Oct 5, 2010 - Argentine oil refiner Petrolera Argentina is conducting studies to build a 20 MW biodiesel-fired power plant at its production site in the western Neuquen province, the company's president, Miguel Schvartzbaum, said in an interview published by local daily La Manana Neuquen.
Currently, AES Argentina's Parana thermoelectric plant is the sole power plant in Argentina which uses biodiesel.
Based in the Plaza Huincul industrial park, Petrolera Argentina has recently commissioned a biodiesel production plant, able to produce 90,000 tonnes a year, and plans to start biodiesel sales in mid-October.
Meanwhile, Petrolera Argentina is expanding its oil-processing capacity to 264,200 barrels a month from the current 169,800 barrels. The new facilities will come onstream in April 2011.
In addition, the company prepares to build another power plant of 15 MW that will use fossil fuel from Petrolera Argentina's refinery. Unlike the biofuel-based plant, the studies on this project have concluded and the company expects to sign the construction contract this or the next month.
