Peru's La Libertad wants wind farm near Chavimochic

Peru's La Libertad region wants to attract private investors for the development of a wind farm within the area of the Chavimochic irrigation project, the local government said Saturday.

The region is offering 1,200 ha (2,965 acres) in the Viru province for the wind project as part of a strategy to encourage private investments in energy and agriculture next to Chavimochic.

According to Edilberto Nique Alarcon, manager of Chavimochic, the administration has identified several other areas such as Pampas de Compositan, Morin, Magdalena de Cao and La Pampa, which could be assigned for studies and construction of new wind plants.

Currently, there is an 83-MW operating wind farm in La Libertad owned by US power plants operator ContourGlobal which last year completed the installation of a total 114 MW in northern Peru.
