Peru appoints Francisco Ismodes as new energy minister

Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines announced on Tuesday the appointment of Francisco Ismodes Mezzano as the country's new energy minister.

Before taking the government job, Mezzano served as general manager of Gestion Sostenible Peru, a company that advises and promotes the development of good practices and high standards in the social, environmental and corporate areas. The lawyer also worked as director of several local energy companies.

In all, the new energy minister has worked for more than 25 years in the mining sector and was involved in issues such as social responsibility, management, strategic planning, among others, the government noted.

Peru's new president Martin Vizcarra swore in a whole new Cabinet on Monday. He took over as president less than two weeks ago after Pedro Pablo Kuczynski resigned amid a corruption scandal.
