September 30 (SeeNews) - Brazil's Pernambuco state government and local wind developer Casa dos Ventos on Tuesday put online the 181.9-MW Santa Brigida Wind Complex.
The complex is comprised of seven parks scattered among the cities of Caetes, Paranatama and Pedra. Casa dos Ventos invested BRL 864 million (USD 215m/EUR 192m) in the complex that will produce enough power to meet the annual demand of 350,000 local homes, noted the government press release.
With the new installed capacity, Pernambuco more than doubles the share of wind power in its energy mix, bringing it up to 7.7%.
Casa dos Ventos has two other wind projects in the state -- the 216-MW Ventos de Sao Clemente, with works already in progress, and the 142-MW Ventos de Santo Estevao. Together, these projects represent an investment of about BRL 1.7 billion.
Currently, Pernambuco has 26 wind parks in operation, totaling 288.6 MW.
