East Energy, utility to use green H2 to decarbonise district heating in Brandenburg
Jul 01, 2022 15:43 CESTMarch 24 (Renewables Now) - Finland-based P2X Solutions Oy has selected Germany's Sunfire GmbH to supply a 20-MW electrolyser for a plant that will be built in western Finland and will produce the country's first green hydrogen.
Sunfire will deliver the pressurised alkaline electrolyser to the site in the town of Harjavalta, where the plant will be located, next year. Commissioning is planned for the summer of 2024.
The implementation of the project will be supported by construction engineering company Fimpec and engineering consultancy company Sweco which last month were selected to provide project consulting, procurement services, and plant design.
“Preparations for the construction of Finland’s first green hydrogen production plant are proceeding rapidly. The selection of Sunfire as the supplier of electrolysis equipment for our Harjavalta plant is an important step in our project and will take us closer to the emission-free and safe welfare society we are striving for," said P2X's chief executive Herkko Plit.
The Helsinki-based green hydrogen and Power-to-X company will invest about EUR 70 million (USD 76.89m) in the facility. The project is supported by the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy and the Finnish Climate Fund with EUR 36 million in funding.
P2X Solutions, which was founded in 2020, noted that it is already working on the design of more hydrogen production plants as it seeks to build 1,000 MW of electrolysis capacity over the next 10 years.
