Japanese company Osaka Gas Co Ltd (TYO:9532) has entered a joint venture (JV) with Virginia-based solar developer Summit Ridge Energy LLC to build more than 50 MW of distributed solar parks in Illinois.
Under the deal, signed by local subsidiary Osaka Gas USA Corp (OGUSA), the partners will build, own and operate the solar portfolio, the Japanese company said on Thursday.
The solar plants will supply clean power to both residential and commercial customers, benefiting from the state's community solar programme.
This is the second time OGUSA and Summit Ridge join forces after a similar deal which was unveiled in 2021 and is tied to 120 MW of community solar parks in Maine.
Summit Ridge, a specialist in the operation of community solar assets, develops, acquires, and finances solar energy and battery storage projects. The business expects to have over 500 MW of solar and 100 MWh of battery storage projects in operation by the end of next year.
