Ormat Technologies strikes PPA for 10-MW solar plant in California
Dec 21, 2011 - US geothermal power company Ormat Technologies Inc (NYSE:ORA) said today it had inked a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for its 10-MW solar power project in California with the Imperial Irrigation District (IID).
The solar photovoltaic (PV) facility will be located close to Ormat's Heber geothermal complex in Imperial Valley and will use part of the existing infrastructure. Construction is to kick off by the end of 2011, while the solar park is to reach commercial operation in 18 months. The facility will produce 24,500 MWh a year, according to Ormat's estimates.
Ormat is also developing several other solar PV projects outside the US with a total capacity of between 10 MW and 15 MW. The company said it was nearing the project development stage.
