Origin Energy Ltd (ASX:ORG) has started selling the Tesla Powerwall home battery in Australia with effect from December 10, it said on its website.
The Australian company is also bundling the Powerwall with modules by Trina Solar Ltd (NYSE:TSL) and inverters by SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG) to offer a complete home energy solution. The SolarEdge inverter, approved by Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) for use with the Powerwall, has solar optimisers on each panel to ensure improved system performance.
This summer Origin Energy said it aims to become the top player on the domestic rooftop solar market. It already has over 400,000 solar customers. Installation of the Powerwall battery for existing customers is expected to start in February 2016.
The Tesla Powerwall is a wall-mounted rechargeable lithium ion battery suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. It comes in 10 kWh weekly cycle and 7 kWh daily cycle models with a warranty of up to 10 years on battery performance.
