July 15 (Renewables Now) - The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the US government’s development finance institution, signed last week letters of interest to mobilise public and private financial support to energy projects in Mexico’s Oaxaca state.

The US Embassy in Mexico informed last Wednesday that one of these projects would be a 200-MW wind farm that will require an investment of USD 320 million (EUR 283.6m). OPIC will consider providing a USD-240-million loan for the construction of the wind farm, pending the agency’s comprehensive review process.

Since 2006, OPIC has supported projects in Mexico with more than USD 1 billion of mobilised capital.
