Opel Solar to install 446-kW solar facility in Rhode Island
(ADPnews) - Dec 2, 2010 - Canadian high concentration photovoltaics (HCPV) maker Opel Solar Inc yesterday said it agreed to build a 446-kW solar system in Rhode Island for Toray Plastics (America) Inc, part of Japan's Toray Industries Inc (TYO:3402).
This project represents the first US solar facility of Toray. Opel Solar, part of Opel Solar International Inc (CVE:OPL), said it hopes that the current deal will result in future solar projects at some of Toray's numerous US sites.
The solar power plant, whose construction will start in the spring of 2011, will include 1,650 PV panels as well as Opel's single-axis trackers, which bolster energy output by up to 20%. The system will produce some 625 MWh annually, enough to power 100 households. The project is eligible for both state and federal funding from the Economic Development Commission for the State of Rhode Island.
