Nov 5, 2014 - The Canadian province of Ontario on Tuesday published a list of 42 developers that are qualified to take part in its 565-MW Large Renewable Procurement (LRP) tender round.
The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has reviewed 70 applications for the programme, which targets 300 MW of onshore wind projects and 140 MW of solar. The province will also award 50 MW of bioenergy and 75 MW of hydropower schemes, according to OPA’s website.
Among the eligible developers are Algonquin Power Co, Capstone Infrastructure (TSE:CSE), EDF EN Canada, EDP Renewables Canada, GDF Suez Canada, Innergex Renewable Energy (TSE:INE), Invenergy, Mainstream Renewable Power, NextEra Canada, Northland Power (TSE:NPI), BluEarth Renewables Inc, Samsung C&T (KRX:000830) and wpd Canada.
Companies that are not included in the list can apply again in any future rounds of the LRP, OPA noted. The power authority will this month post draft versions of the contracts for power capacity, after which bidding will begin from January 2015.
The competitive procurement programme was launched after Ontario cancelled its feed-in tariff (FiT) scheme in 2013. Winning candidates for the first LRP round will be announced in August 2015.
