May 17 (Renewables Now) - New York state’s Guilderland Central School District held on Wednesday the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of its 3-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in the village of Altamont in Albany County.

California-based solar and storage developer Forefront Power LLC was selected to build the farm and did it in under two months in order to help the district become eligible for the New York state’s Remote Net Metering (RNM) programme.

The Guilderland Central solar farm, stretching across 22 acres (8.9 hectares) in Altamont, is expected to generate 3.3 million kWh annually, allowing the school district to cut its electrical carbon footprint in half.

The school district estimates that the power purchase agreement (PPA) with ForeFront Power will help save around USD 4.5 million (EUR 4m) of taxpayer’s money over a 20-year period.
