Oct 2, 2014 - US utility NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) said on Thursday it had grown its NRG Home residential solar platform through the takeover of Pure Energies Group Inc.
The acquired business is a Canada-based residential solar sector player that specialises in web-based customer acquisition. NRG’s president and CEO, David Crane, explained in a statement that “buying [residential solar systems] over the Internet is the acquisition channel of choice in particular for the younger generation of Americans.”
Pure Energies uses an online platform through which it can generate a detailed analysis of the client’s home solar feasibility versus their energy needs. The company’s acquisition will help the NRG Home Solar business to lower customer acquisition costs. Furthermore, Pure Energies will bring a new sales channel for the Goal Zero line of portable solar and energy storage offerings and the group’s retail operations, NRG added.
The transaction, the value of which was not given, also complements NRG’s takeover of New Jersey-based sector company Roof Diagnostics Solar (RDS) from earlier this year.
