Norwegian REC opens 2 plants in USA

(ADPnews) - Oct 13, 2010 - Norwegian photovoltaic (PV) firm Renewable Energy Corporation ASA (OSL:REC), or REC, said that its US subsidiary REC Silicon on Monday cut the ribbon on two new silicon production facilities in Washington state.

By opening the facilities, the company will bolster its polysilicon capacity by 10,500 tonnes by the end of 2010, it said. REC Silicon has poured USD 1.7 billion (EUR 1.2bn) in its expansion.

Furthermore, the setting up of the two plants created 800 temporary jobs during construction works and 1,875 contract jobs.
