Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has signed a solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with Norwegian industrial company Hydro to supply an aluminium extrusion facility in Pennsylvania.
From next summer, the particular site in Cressona will receive electricity from the 127-MW DC Maple Hill solar power plant that is currently being built on a former coal mine in Portage Township. When completed, the solar park will consist of 237,000 bi-facial photovoltaic (PV) panels, deployed on a single-axis tracking system.
This solar PPA is the first long-term energy contract for Hydro in the US, according to the announcement. The Oslo-based company recently announced its intention to invest USD 48.3 million (EUR 41m) in Cressona.
