December 21 (Renewables Now) - German wind turbine maker Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) and aeronautical firm Fabrica Argentina de Aviones Brig San Martin SA (FAdeA) have partnered up to set up a 500-MW assembly line in Argentina.

The new facility, to be located in Cordoba, will produce nacelles and hubs for the AW3000 turbine platform. Scheduled to commence operations in the coming year, the plant will manufacture the 48 AW132/3300 wind turbines ordered recently by AES Argentina Generacion. Overall, it will have the capacity to produce up to 150 turbines of 3 MW each.

In addition to the nacelles and hubs factory, Nordex is also planning two concrete tower production plants. Together, these projects will increase the European firm's share of local integration to 36%. Some 300 jobs will also be created at the new sites.

According Nordex's CEO Jose Luis Blanco, the company intends to further localise its supply chain in the upcoming years.
