Daimler India plans to set up a solar power system at a new warehousing and logistics facility in Chennai to meet some of its power needs, the company's spokesman Florian Laudan said, without disclosing further details.
The two companies have manufacturing facilities in the state of Tamil Nadu's city of Chennai.
Last week, the government of Tamil Nadu unveiled the state's Solar Energy Policy 2012, under which Tamil Nadu intends to add 3,000 MW of solar power capacity in the period from 2013 to 2015. The policy envisages the installation of 1 GW of solar capacity in each of the three years.
The state will also introduce solar purchase obligations for high-voltage consumers in special economic zones, information technology parks, telecommunications towers, colleges and schools and industries guaranteed with 24-hour power supply, the daily added.
