March 16 (Renewables Now) - NEXTracker Inc today said it will be making more structural components of its solar tracking systems locally in India thanks to a partnership with APL Apollo Tubes Ltd (BOM:533758).

APL Apollo adds to four other local steel fabricators that are already supplying foundation piers to NEXTracker. The expansion of the company's Indian supply partners will see its local steel content percentage increase to over 80% by volume and weight of its final product, according to the announcement.

The US photovoltaic (PV) trackers maker, which is owned by Flex Ltd (NASDAQ:FLEX), said that localising steel pipe manufacturing will lower shipment time by up to 50%, lower logistics costs and, at same time, support the Make in India programme.

India has a target of reaching 100 GW of solar capacity by 2022.
