NextEra unit commissions 10-MW solar array in Colorado

US wholesale power generator NextEra Energy Resources LLC has commissioned the 10-MW Clear Spring Ranch solar power plant to the south of Colorado Springs in the state of Colorado, it was announced on Friday.

The subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE) developed and built the ground-mounted solar park and will now own, operate and maintain it. The plant, consisting of roughly 42,000 solar panels, will be selling its output to Colorado Springs Utilities under a 25-year contract.

"This array also moves us significantly closer to achieving our Energy Vision, which requires 20 percent of our total electric energy be produced through renewable sources by 2020," said Colorado Springs Utilities CEO Jerry Forte.

The project is seen to generate some USD 1 million (EUR 919,000) in property taxes over its life.
