January 13 (Renewables Now) - Brazilian power company Neoenergia SA (BVMF:NEOE3) is exploring the development of three local offshore wind projects for a combined 9 GW, Spanish news outlet La Vanguardia has reported.
The projects are very much in their infancy, but are said to be planned for installation off the coast of the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Ceara.
According to La Vanguardia, Neoenergia has unveiled its plans in response to a public consultation for offshore wind which the Brazilian government is conducting to shape up the legal framework ahead of future auctions.
The public consultation, led by the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), is open until April 9, 2020. Ibama says on its website it is seeking stakeholder feedback that will help it define regulation for environmental impact studies for offshore wind.
