July 19 (Renewables Now) - French renewable power producer Neoen SA (EPA:NEOEN) today announced the start of construction of the 40.4-MW Bjorkliden wind farm in western Finland, with the facility slated to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2024.
Neoen owns the project together with wind developer Prokon, part of the German Prokon Group, holding stakes of 80% and 20%, respectively.
The project owners have now issued notice to proceed to the wind turbine supplier, German manufacturer Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1), and contractor Keski-Suomen Betonirakenne Oy. The wind farm, located in the municipality of Narpes, will have seven wind turbines. Under 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA), it will provide 85% of its generation and guarantees of origin to digital infrastructure company Equinix Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX). The PPA, signed in January this year, was awarded in a competitive tender by Equinix and is partially indexed to market prices.
Neoen said this is its third wind farm in Finland, meaning it now has over 550 MW in operation or under construction in the country.
