Oct 4, 2012 - US solar power producer Nautilus Solar Energy has agreed to install an 839.5-kW photovoltaic (PV) plant at the New Jersey headquarters (HQ) of Konica Minolta Business Solutions USA, part of Japanese electronics group Konica Minolta (TYO:4902).
Under the agreement, Nautilus Solar will build and own the PV system and will sell its output to Konica Minolta at a discount to the company's current utility rate, the project partners said in a joint statement today.
The system will include some 3,498 solar panels on carport canopies in the parking lots at Konica Minolta's offices. It will produce enough power to supply 84 households a year, based on standards set by US Environmental Protection Agency. Official start of construction of the solar canopies is slated for October 24, with completion seen in May 2013.
The PV facility will be installed as part of Konica Minolta's Project Sunway initiative. The programmes aims to generate some 967,000 kWh of power a year, enough to meet up to 20% of the power needs of Konica Minolta's offices, according to the statement.
Project Sunway is part of Konica Minolta's Eco Vision 2050 through which the company aims to cut carbon dioxide emissions throughout its product life cycle by 80% from 2005 levels, promote recycling and effective use of the limited resources as well as restoration and preservation of biodiversity.
