Nanoco, Tokyo Electron extend solar film development partnership

Dec 20, 2012 - UK cadmium-free quantum dots maker Nanoco Group plc (LON:NANO) today said it had agreed a follow-on deal with Japan's Tokyo Electron Ltd (TYO:8035) to continue with the development of a nanomaterial-based solar film.

The ultimate goal is to create a low cost, high efficiency solar cell, the statement says.

The contract is the third phase of a joint development agreement, signed by the companies in June 2010, under which Nanoco is developing a tailored nanomaterial-based solar ink. Techniques devised by electronics maker Tokyo Electron are used to print the solar ink to produce a solar film.

The third phase of the agreement will run until September 2014 and will see Nanoco receive unspecified milestone payments. The UK firm said it would continue to concentrate on improving the performance of the film during that phase.
