Mitsubishi unit to install PV system for pharma group Kyowa Kirin
Japanese solar photovoltaic plant
Japanese pharmaceutical and biotechnology company Kyowa Kirin Co Ltd (TYO:4151) announced last week it has ordered the construction of a 1.47-MW solar power system at its Ube Plant in Yamaguchi prefecture.
The photovoltaic (PV) project will be implemented under the onsite power purchase agreement (PPA) model by MCKB Energy Service Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation Clean Energy Ltd.
Kyowa Kirin expects the solar plant to be up and running by March 2023, allowing it to offset around 1,029 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.
This is the first time for Kyowa Kirin to use the onsite PPA model, in which the installation of solar power generation equipment is made on the end user’s premises or rooftop free of charge. The project is a collaboration with its parent company, Kirin Holdings Company (TYO:2503).
The Kirin Group, which Kyowa Kirin belongs to, has set a goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.
