Swedish thin-film solar technology company Midsummer AB (STO:MIDS) today unveiled plans for a 50-MWp factory in Italy, where it will operate through a new locally-based unit.
The company, which supplies equipment for the production of CIGS solar cells and makes its own flexible modules, said in a press release that it is setting up a new branch in Rome called Midsummer Italia. The subsidiary will be involved in all activities of the group spanning from production to sale of solar panels.
In respect to its investment plans on the Italian market, Midsummer said it will spend “substantial resources” in the country and build a new manufacturing facility with a peak capacity of 50 MW per year. The facility will be installed in the southern parts of Italy, with its production to be sold to private customers through local partners.
Midsummer said it has also identified opportunities to refurbish degraded panels and older rooftop photovoltaic (PV) arrays. Jarno Montella, the newly-appointed CEO of Midsummer Italia, noted that Midsummer’s products are a perfect fit for the 110% tax rebate available to Italian homeowners.
