Swedish thin-film solar technology specialist Midsummer AB (STO:MIDS) has been selected to deliver more than 100 MW of photovoltaic (PV) panels, both at home and abroad.
The company said on Saturday it has signed letters of intent (LOIs) with six Swedish and international roof material producers, property companies and solar cell installers for the pre-sale of the equipment. The agreements, equating to 107 MW of PV cell capacity, add to 75 MW of contracts in Italy and bring Midsummer’s order book to 182 MW.
“We are in various stages of LOI talks with other industry players than the ones announced today, in an effort to reach much larger sales volumes. The market for our products is enormous and grows rapidly,” said CEO Sven Lindstrom, adding that the new contracts underpin the company’s “aggressive” growth plans.
Midsummer currently operates a 2-MW manufacturing plant in Sweden and is due to open a 50-MW plant in Bari, Italy, in 2023. Last month, it said it would seek to expand its global production capabilities with an extra capacity of roughly 20 MW in Sweden, amid a broader plan that could scale up its manufacturing to 200 MW per year.
The Swedish firm’s long-term vision is to reach an annual production capacity of at least 1 GW by 2030 by building several mega-factories across Europe.
