Swiss solar technology firm Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWX:MBTN) has received a second equipment order from its strategic partner Oxford Photovoltaics Ltd, better known as Oxford PV.
This time, the contract is for CHF 18 million (USD 18.2m/EUR 16.4m). It includes the expansion of the previously ordered 100-MW silicon heterojunction (HJT) solar cell line into an integrated 125-MW line for the production of perovskite HJT tandem cells. Development work on line and process integration is also part of the order.
In the spring of 2019, the two companies announced a joint development agreement to combine their respective solar technologies, in line with which Meyer Burger became the largest shareholder of Oxford PV. The partners say the tandem technology will enable cell efficiencies of more than 30%.
In August, Meyer received a CHF-20-million order to supply HJT production equipment to Oxford PV and noted that this would be followed by a supplementary order for perovskite top cell production equipment. The UK-based perovskite solar firm aims to reach a perovskite-on-silicon tandem solar cell capacity of 250 MW by the end of 2020 at Oxford PV’s facility in Brandenburg an der Havel, so it will be ordering more equipment from Meyer in the coming months.
