Mexican Grupo Bimbo kicks off 90 MW wind farm construction

(ADPnews) - Dec 3, 2010 - Mexican bakeries and confectionery concern Grupo Bimbo (MXK:BIMBO) announced yesterday the start of construction of a 90 MW wind farm in Mexico's southern Oaxaca state worth nearly USD 200 million (EUR 150.8m).
The wind farm, called Piedra Larga, will start commercial operations in late 2011 and will produce all the electricity consumed by Grupo Bimbo in Mexico.
The project will be developed in the Union Hidalgo municipality with the participation of Mexican firm Desarrollos Eolicos Mexicanos (Demex), a subsidiary of Spanish renewable energy firm Renovalia.
The Piedra Larga wind farm fits in Mexico's efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, energy minister Georgina Kessel said yesterday.
Mexico wants the renewable energy to account for 26% of its electricity output in 2012.
