Sep 7 (Renewables Now) - Mendoza province announced on Monday it will enter a 50-MW wind farm expansion project in Argentina's 1.2-GW renewables tender.

With the additional capacity, the El Sosneado wind park will reach 100 MW, enough to meet the annual demand of 128,000 families. There are plans to further boost El Sosneado's capacity to 150 MW.

The Mendoza government said it expects to start construction of the park in the final quarter of 2017. Built by local energy company Emesa (Empresa Mendocina de Energia Sociedad Anonima), the project will require an investment of about USD 70 million (EUR 58.6m), including USD 11 million for interconnection works.

Participants in the RenovAr 2.0 auction, the winners of which will be announced on November 29, will bid for wind power purchase agreements (PPAs) at no more than USD 56.25 per MWh.
