MEMC, Flextronics to jointly develop solar panels in Canada
(ADPnews) - Dec 7, 2010 - US SunEdison, a unit of wafers maker MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE:WFR), said yesterday its affiliate MEMC Singapore has teamed up with Flextronics (NASDAQ:FLEX) on solar panel production in the Canadian province of Ontario.
Under the agreement, Flextronics, a Singapore-based provider of electronics manufacturing services (EMS), will produce MEMC-branded solar panels at its plant in Ontario. SunEdison will use the panels in its projects.
SunEdison said the local panel manufacturing should help it to surpass the 60% domestic content requirement of Ontario's feed-in tariff programme.
According to SunEdison vice president and country manager Jason Gray, the panel production line will have an initial capacity of 50 MW a year and potential to expand to 200 MW.
Production is expected to start in the second quarter of the coming year.
The investment is seen to create some 100 workplaces.
