McPhy Energy SA (EPA:MCPHY) today said it has secured a contract worth over EUR 4 million (USD 4.7m) as part of a hydrogen mobility project in the metropolis of Dijon.
The French hydrogen specialist will design and install two hydrogen stations and a 1-MW high-power electrolyser for the first phase of the project, led by the newly set up company Dijon Metropole Smart EnergHy (DMSE). One of the stations will be offering a filling pressure of 350 bar, while the other will have a "Dual Pressure" configuration of 350 and 700 bar. The total daily potential will amount to 800 kg of hydrogen delivered.
The electrolyser, to be installed on the territory of Dijon Metropole, will source 90% of the needed electricity from a household waste incinerator, while the other 10% will come from local renewables installations.
DMSE's goal is to push hydrogen as a zero-emission alternative for public, professional or private transport. The first phase of the initiative focuses on the north of Dijon and involves hydrogen production and supply for the metropolitan fleet of heavy and light vehicles. Initially, 27 buses, 9 garbage trucks and around 15 light vehicles will be part of the system, while by 2030 the project could reach 200 buses, 50 garbage trucks and 250 light vehicles.
The “Dijon Nord” project is estimated to avoid nearly 2,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. It is backed by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME).
The contract for McPhy has been awarded by ROUGEOT Energie, the general contractor for the project.
