January 13 (Renewables Now) - Global renewable energy platform Matrix Renewables has struck an agreement to acquire 440 MW worth of solar PV projects in Spain and Italy, it announced on Thursday.

In the portfolio are five different assets, with 400 MW of the capacity set to be installed in Spain and 40 MW in Italy, the Madrid-based platform said.

No other details about the transaction were disclosed.

Construction of the first phase of these projects is slated to commence in 2022.

Matrix Renewables arrived in Italy in September 2021 through a co-development deal with Horus Green Energy Investment to jointly work on close to 420 MW of solar projects in Sicily and Lazio. This agreement was later followed by an acquisition of a 91-MW solar portfolio from Spanish developer Solaer.

In Spain, Matrix Renewables secured 210 MW of solar projects under an agreement with Alten Renewable Energy last summer. This agreement also included the acquisition of 90 MW of projects in Portugal.

Matrix Renewables is backed by alternative asset manager TPG. The platform has projects in Europe, Latin America and the US.
